I am off to San Francisco today to pitch a radical new education project for children that aims to answer the question: ‘Are we all born limitless?’
It is a really bold and challenging new approach to education that raises a lot of questions. I am compelled to demonstrate that so much more can be done, since there is such grand prize at stake: the future of our children, and of the world. I am both excited and fearful, because this passion comes from a lifetime of experiences, for both my wife and for me.
I was lucky enough to be afforded a great education, by any standards. Despite this, it didn’t really work out all that well for me because, other than socialising, I didn’t really get a lot from it, educationally. I never flourished: I only survived. Yet I went to a good school and a great university and got reasonable results, despite being disengaged for most of the time.
On reflection, the most impressive thing is how little I did focus, while still managing to stay in the educational game. I was never really engaged in the way I am engaged in learning today.
I have learnt more in the last two years than I have ever learnt before: about myself and the world around me. It has been like an incredible learning bootcamp and the fact that I have progressed as an individual so far in such a short space of time is amazing. Moreover, I am happier than I have ever been!
What annoys me is the lost potential in my life. What if I had been in such a self-determining system from the beginning? What if my childhood education had been run in the way my recent love of learning has been? What could I have achieved? How happy would I have been, then? What more could I have achieved by now?
I work with entrepreneurs every day, helping them to develop awesome lives and businesses. It never fails to amaze me how much time I have to spend unwinding the past. There is always some fear or limiting belief that holds everyone back. There is often something negative in our past – often from our childhood or the education system – that we came to believe about ourselves and about our limitations. This annoys me: it doesn’t have to be this way!
In everyone I work with, I aim to instil a sense that nothing is impossible. I help people to see that they have a huge amount of control over their success in life. And you know what? It works, time after time!
I laugh about this with my wife, because she spends her days doing the same as me, but with kids – catching them earlier to build up their self-belief. She is effectively trying to put me out of business! Yet, if this were a perfect world, both of us would be out of business. In an ideal world, we would all be flourishing and pursuing our dreams. We would not have any voices in our heads telling us what we can and can’t do, and we would be focussed on what we really want to do – and be doing it.
Fundamentally, I believe that we are just scratching the surface of what education can achieve for every individual on the planet. There is genius inside every one of us. CLICK TO TWEET I just don’t believe that we are delivering anything close to what is possible, for our children, given the knowledge already out there about neuroscience, motivation, and self-belief.
And rather than just talking about the problem, we are going out on a limb to do something about it.
Wish me luck, & watch this space!

Today, I went to the beach with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was
a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go
back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
