The world will keep on improving without me

The world will keep on improving without me

Last week, I blogged about how the world was actually getting better every day and  the importance of having gratitude for that fact.

This week, I want to share something to which I give much consideration whenever I reflect on what I am doing.

The world is on an unstoppable path of improvement. There are 7 billion of us today – and that figure will rise to perhaps 10 billion in the future.

Personally, I have complete faith that the collective ingenuity of mankind will solve all of our toughest problems. Climate change, poverty, conflict, disease etc. Our collective capacity to solve problems is growing every day, as is our collective desire.

From an individual point of view, it is important to get in touch with what this means. It is unavoidable, natural, evolution. A continuing trend of chaotic improvement. In detail, it looks messy, but from a distance, there is a beautifully consistent trend upwards.

I do what I do because I enjoy it – not because I feel that the world needs me to do it. My insignificance is a key frame of reference for me when life gets tough.

Sure, I can contribute hugely to changing the world in my lifetime, but I also realise that even if I didn’t exist, the world would change anyway.

It would be very easy for me to follow the noise of the news and surrender to the egotistical desire to do something at the cost of myself and those close to me.

Making sure that my life is coming from the right place first is key, for me. I aim to operate from a place of love, joy and ease. If I feel fear, pain or struggle, I change something. This is the compass I use to keep me as far away as possible from unintended consequences.

For me, there is no point in building something from the wrong place. It shows a lack of faith in the rest of the planet to collectively solve our problems.

One of my strengths is that I believe in people. All people. I believe in every individual and also in the human race as a whole. It is that unwavering belief in others that helps me to create impact.

The energy that you put out into the world is what matters – not what you are doing. For some, that will mean putting energy into big things and for others, it means small things. In the end, that is all the work we have to do.

Are you working from a place of love… or fear?

Are you coming from a place of struggle… or ease?

Are you coming from a place of joy… or pain?

Building things from the right place is the first thing I focus on.

If 7 billion people learn how to do that, we will all be just fine.

What is it that brings you joy, love and ease?

Please do more of that.
Marc
